Mohawk Group Gets the Balance Right at Guernsey’s First BREEAM Office Development
Mohawk Group carpet tiles balance aesthetic flexibility with performance at one of Guernsey’s newest commercial office developments.
Guernsey’s Admiral Park is designated as the island’s only office expansion area and within it is Plaza House, the first fully accredited BREEAM building in Guernsey, providing over 20,000 m² of space across six floors.
SUNTERA Global, has moved into the statement building to consolidate its remote team across the island, and commissioned POS Interiors to design the fit-out. With the aim to create a space that felt fresh and energising, and which supported collaborative working and solo productivity; the team has used zoning through flooring to achieve the right balance.
For perimeter open-plan work areas and the breakout zones between, POS Interiors specified Mohawk Group’s Imperfection and Pattern carpet tile collections.
Aaron Grant, Design Team Leader, worked with Cody Lowe, Junior Interior Designer, to develop the design and specification. He says, “Mohawk Group’s range offered the flexibility we needed to combine carpet tiles with luxury vinyl finishes. The breadth of colour, pattern and format options allowed us to achieve the desired zoning.”
To mark out working areas, POS Interiors selected a dark tone in the adaptable and dynamic look of Pattern’s Tailored 969, inspired by a self-controlled way of working. Adding the lighter tone of Tailored 911 and Imperfection’s Rupture 911 to zone breakout. Inspired by the ancient Japanese technique of kintsugi, where imperfection is celebrated, Rupture includes golden, thread-like fissures that add a dynamic, less formal quality to these areas.
“The flooring has helped to define spaces through complementary colours, tones and patterns,” continues Aaron Grant. “Using Mohawk Group’s ranges we were able to maintain a cohesive design, while supporting comfort, creativity and collaboration across the office.”
Pattern’s Tailored carpet tiles use Thrive® matter, the world’s first carbon negative nylon fibre. Imperfection Rupture is made with Econyl® regenerated nylon. Solution dyed, both yarns are resistant to stains and fading, easy to clean and hold onto their appearance. A total of 990 m² of carpet tiles were installed.
