If floors could talk: colour-coded carpet tiles lay out the co-working protocol at Coreso
Open office spaces create a sense of unity but come with incredible challenges if employees do not abide by the co-working etiquette. At Coreso’s new office, this concern was quickly solved with some ‘ground’ rules. Literally. The colour of the carpet tiles tells employees exactly how to behave. Mohawk Group’s newest project is a fine example of how psychology meets design.
Laying out the ground rules
At Coreso, a large international firm in Brussels (Belgium), an exciting bunch of expats are always coming and going, each introducing their own manners and habits. So, when the crowded office had to be expanded, there was some resistance to an open layout. “They feared a lack of discipline”, says Kim Vanuytsel, interior designer at Vinci facilities. “But together we came up with the perfect solution: colour-coded flooring! Blue carpet tiles mark the co-working area, while in grey areas, it’s business as usual, individual and in silence.”
The proof is in the pudding
Sounds good in theory, but what about in practice? It’s one thing to agree on appropriate office behaviour. Implementing this way of working daily is clearly another. “In that case, visual stimuli can be a great help.” According to Vanuytsel, that’s exactly why this new layout is working. “It’s a fun reminder of the Coreso house rules.”

Sleek and chic
To create just the right atmosphere, the design team opted for a stylish combination of Academic View 924 and 569 from the Art Exposure collection: carpet tiles with a subtle mixture of organic and urban influences. Vanuytsel: “We didn’t want to go crazy and wild in terms of colours, so we went for a refined corporate look. It goes without saying that we also had acoustics in mind. For the kitchen area, we chose LVT from the Moduleo 55 Woods collection: it’s easy to maintain, and thanks to a Flex Pro underlay, ideally suited to cover up the joints of the existing floor.”
Mohawk Group service put to the test
But this design project was a test in still another way for Vanuytsel, who had yet to experience Mohawk Group’s high-quality service. “I didn’t know the brand and had never worked with their products before”, she admits. “But after a visit to their impressive showroom, I was instantly inspired. They offer endless possibilities in both carpet tiles and LVT, and the fact that they are producing right here in Belgium is an extra asset. So, I decided to give it a go.”
The first, but not the last
It’s safe to say that Mohawk Group passed the test with flying colours. “Their top service is inimitable”, Vanuytsel concludes. “They have been so helpful and fast in their follow-up throughout the entire process. That’s what struck me the most. We’ve collaborated on various projects ever since, so Coreso might have been the first, but it was definitely not the last.”
